Heavy Petals draws on the alchemy of fire and steel, visible in the metal rose, to reimagine the rose’s enduring symbolism of love and wedding ritual. Long associated with celebration, devotion, and floral excess, the rose here becomes a forged memory. Steel, softened through heat, mirrors the way grief reshapes the heart through pressure, endurance, and time.
Referencing wedding floral motifs familiar across the region, the work gives these romantic forms a weighty permanence. What is typically ephemeral is rendered enduring. The union becomes a monument, not only to joy, but also to absence, mourning, and remembrance. By exaggerating and materializing these motifs, Heavy Petals reveals how love and loss coexist. Transformation unfolds through heat, tension, rupture, and resilience.
